Review guidelines

Last updated

This is the official reviews site of College Council, run by College Council itself. The company behind it is named on the Contact and site operator page. These rules apply to every review, whatever the rating.

Who can write a review

  • Reviews are by personal invitation. Anyone who has used College Council, a student or a parent or guardian, can write one with the private link we share with them.
  • One review per person for each service. You can update it at any time.
  • Under 18: a parent or guardian confirms before we publish. Under 13: a parent or guardian writes instead.
  • People who work or have worked for us (employees, tutors, consultants, contractors) and their spouses, parents, children and siblings cannot post reviews here.
  • If you have another personal connection to our team, such as being a friend, tell us. We will show the label “Personal connection to our team”.

What we ask of you

  • Write about your own experience with College Council. Be honest; criticism is welcome.
  • If we gave you something outside our public offers, such as free access or a special discount, tell us. We will show a label. We also add it ourselves when our records show it.
  • You can name the people on our team who worked with you, in their role. Please don't share details about anyone else, such as other students or family members.

What we always do

  • We publish reviews whatever the rating. We don't hide, delay or reorder a review because it is negative.
  • We use the same rules for positive and negative reviews.
  • We don't pay or reward anyone for reviews, and we never ask for positive ones.
  • We don't write reviews ourselves, and we don't rewrite yours.
  • We never offer a refund, a discount or anything else in exchange for changing or deleting a review, and we never threaten reviewers.

What we remove

We remove a review, or only the part that breaks a rule, if it contains:

  1. insults, harassment, threats, or hate or discrimination based on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, disability or a similar characteristic;
  2. obscene, vulgar or sexually explicit content;
  3. personal information or images of another person, such as names of other students, contact details or documents;
  4. trade secrets or someone else's confidential business or financial information (what you paid us and what we promised you is not confidential, so you can write about both);
  5. spam, advertising, links to other businesses or promo codes;
  6. a fake review: not based on your own experience, written for someone else, posted from several accounts, or paid for by anyone (we write down the reason for every such decision);
  7. content wholly unrelated to College Council's services;
  8. content that is illegal, for example defamation of a named person or copyright infringement.

When we remove part of a review, we show “[removed by moderator: reason]” in its place.

What we don't remove

Low ratings. Harsh but non-abusive criticism. Complaints about price, refunds, results, admission outcomes or communication. Comparisons with other companies based on your experience. Reviews we disagree with. If we think a review gets something wrong about us, we reply publicly. We don't remove it.

How moderation works

  • A person reads every review before it goes live. We don't use automated filters.
  • If we don't publish, hide or remove all or part of your review, we email you. This includes reviews we could not verify. We tell you what we did, which rule it was based on, whether someone reported it, and how to ask us to look again.
  • To ask us to look again, reply to that email within 6 months.
  • Anyone can report a review: see Report a review.
  • If someone repeatedly posts fake or abusive reviews, we may stop accepting reviews from them. We tell them why.

Our replies

  • We may reply publicly to any review, positive or negative. Replies are signed with a name and role, for example “Jakub Andre, Founder”.
  • In a reply we never reveal anything about you or your child that you did not write in your review.
  • We may contact you privately to help solve a problem. Whether to change or delete your review is always your choice.

Editing and deleting your review

  • To edit your review, use our contact form with the email address you gave in your review. An edited review shows “Edited on [date]”, and your new rating replaces the old one in the average.
  • You can delete your review at any time. We remove it from this site and stop using it anywhere else, such as our other websites, apps or social media. Copies kept by search engines may take some time to disappear, and we don't control them.

Your content

  • You keep the copyright in your review.
  • You give the company that runs this site a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to publish your review (text, rating, display name, country, role, service and date) on this site; to show short quotes from it, with a link to the full review, on our other websites, apps and social media; to translate it, marked as a translation with the original one click away; and to format it for display.
  • We don't change the meaning of your review. Quotes reflect what you wrote. The licence ends when the review is deleted.
  • You confirm that the review describes your own experience and that you have the right to post it.

How your name appears

Your full name or your first name and the initial of your surname, as you choose in the form, with your country, role (student or parent), the service and the month and year. For reviewers under 18: first name and initial only, with no photo.

Reviews by young people and parents

  • Parents and guardians can always write about their child's experience. The review shows “Parent” and the parent's display name, not the child's name.
  • 13 to 17: you can write your own review. Before we publish it, a parent or guardian confirms by email.
  • Under 13: we don't accept reviews from you. Ask a parent or guardian to write one instead.

Changes and contact

If we make a significant change to these guidelines, we post it here and email everyone with a published review.

To contact us, use our contact form. A person answers; we don't use only automated replies.
